Carlee Haywood

CHAIR & YEAR 6 REP

About...

We joined GFS in 2008. My eldest two now attend Verulam & STAGS while my youngest is still at Garden Fields. Having helped out for a long time, I joined the PTA in 2013, became Secretary and then took over as Chair in Sept 2016. I worked as a Marketing Manager for many years, became a childminder and a Birth and Postnatal Doula. GFS PTA are a lovely bunch of parents and teachers; we have fun as well as working hard to raise phenomenal amounts each year for the benefit of the school and all the children. I do feel the events we arrange help to create the fantastic community feel we have at Garden Fields!Love: my kids (most of the time); travel & music – which I combine by stalking – I mean supporting – Bon Jovi (my other passion) all over the world!Pet hates: Shopping; noisy eating!

Ewa Riches

TREASURER & YEAR 5 REP

About...

I am Mum to Isabella in year 8 at STAGS and Zachary in year 5. I work as the Finance and Commercial Manager at Spire Harpenden Hospital which I love, having moved from a large corporate. In my free time I enjoy Pilates, reading, gardening and have recently started drinking Gin! I have been Treasurer of the PTA for 3 years and find it very rewarding. Being part of the PTA is immense fun and I enjoy working with a strong group of people who feel passionate about making a positive difference for our school and children.

Suzanne Brooks

SECRETARY & Year 5 & 3 Rep

About...

Since having my daughter in 2009, I have worked as a home based solicitor consultant for the London firm where I previously worked full time. I have two children at school in year 5 and year 3. I love being part of the Garden Fields community and helping to continue the amazing work of the PTA in my roles as Secretary and coordinating the raffle/silent auction at the Christmas and May Fairs.

Christina Smith

YEAR 6, 2, SEN & STAFF REP

About...

I have 3 children 2 of whom are currently at GFS and one at secondary school. I am a Biomedical Scientist by qualification and spent many years working in the Pharmaceutical Industry. I am a bit of a sport junkie and can usually be seen running somewhere or taking the XC club here at GFS!! My middle child has both Hearing and Vision Problems that make learning even more challenging. I wanted to join the PTA to try and add a different perspective for those of us whose children have a slightly different journey through education. The PTA already supports SEN really well at GFS – but sometimes the world of having an SEN child can be daunting – GFS has been amazing in supporting my children and I am keen to try and support the school in return.Currently I work as a LSA at GFS and am really enjoying helping kids to reach their potential. Being a parent and a member of staff gives me a great insight into how invaluable the funds raised by the PTA are.

About...

After seeing GFS successfully transition my 2 boys to Parmiters in the past few years, I decided to formally join the GFS PTA in 2014, and will lend a hand wherever I can to the school that has been the main feature of our children’s education for the past 12 years.

YEAR 6 REP

About...

We joined GFS in 2007 and have always enjoyed helping out at various events. My youngest is now in Year 6 so it’s my last year at the school as a parent. I thought I’d join the committee and hopefully pass on some of the experience I’ve gained over the last 12 years and also to give up some of my time as a way of saying thank you to the wonderful PTA for making it an amazing school for our 3 children. I’m looking forward to a great year of fundraising and fun for our school community.

Mel Jones

YEAR 4 REP

About...

My son was part of the September 2015 intake and has really settled into life at Garden Fields. I love being involved with the school and doing what I can to help ensure that my son and his peers get the very best from their learning journey through the school. I am lucky enough to live a stone’s throw away from Garden Fields and have been part of the local community in St Albans for over 12 years. After four years of being a full-time mum I now work part-time for a large local architectural and engineering company. Before this, I have had a successful career in retail banking and also in education, teaching English (E.S.O.L) at colleges in the North and locally at Oaklands College.

YEAR 4 REP

About...

Both my wife (Mel) and I joined the PTA in 2015 when our son started at Garden Fields. We felt it was really important to be a part of the school community and to do what we could to support the PTA and the school. The achievements of the PTA are amazing. It is a real honour to be a member of such a fabulous team. Outside of PTA life I work within the governance, risk and compliance sector of the eLearning industry.

Kirsty Higman

YEAR 4 & STAFF REP

About...

I decided to join the PTA because I felt they needed a member of staff on the team. I have worked at GFS for over 10 years, so I have a lot experience.  I currently work in Year 3 as a Teaching Assistant and really enjoy it. I deliver Fine motor skills and support SEN sessions throughout the school. The PTA have provided much needed equipment for these sessions. I have two sons in the school, one in EYFS and the other in Year 4, so I felt it was important to put something back. The PTA raise and donate a lot of money to the school and I felt I needed to help with this.

About...

My eldest started Garden Fields in 2016 and my second started in 2019. So, with many years to come, I wanted to be part of the PTA and help to continue the great work it does in raising money to support our children. After a career in both retail and travel management, I started a new business with fellow Mum, Jemma Scanlan, called Little Active People and am loving the new challenge. I am also a Brownie leader at a local group – many of our girls go to Garden Fields and love the school.

YEAR 3 & EYFS REP

About...

My son joined Garden Fields in 2016 followed by my daughter in 2019. The school has so many opportunities available, many of which wouldn’t be possible without the fundraising efforts from the PTA. With solid finance and business experience, I hope to contribute to the fantastic work they do.

Katie Ellegard

YEAR 3 REP

About...

I am a full time working mum to two boys; my eldest started Garden Fields in 2016. I joined the PTA as, like most parents, I am aware that funding for schools is very tight and decreasing every year. I wanted to find a way to support the school that was supporting my child. The PTA are amazing and the funds they raise are vital to all the children.

I became part of the PTA having become friends a few members and wanted to help and do my bit for the school. They have some fabulous projects to improve the school and with a background in events and retail management, I love getting involved in a project, there is always something going on at Garden Fields for the kids and families. The PTA are a really lovely group of parents, all wanting to do their best for the school – it is great to be part of the team.
